About the inspiration
The weave of the MADRAS freedom set has been inspired by a specific type of checked fabric, historically known as Real Madras Handkerchief (RMHK) that originated in the city of Madras in South India. It was a yarn dyed, plaid cotton fabric that seemed to have originated in the village of Madraspatnam in the 12th century , initially worn asa lungies by fishermen and farmers. The British East India Company played a significant role in popularising and exporting the Madras checks in the 17th Century.
Ours is a contemporary take on this historical fabric, our version of it. In natural dyed yarn.
