Monique dress in Jamdani (shaada-laal)
This is our signature Monique dress . We love everything about it !
Woven in soft jamdani muslin cotton , with handwoven buta motifs in shaada (white) and laal (red) with green , this dress has a free flowing style with soft gathers along the waist and a buttoned down front . Layered with an inner dress in red-white-black muslin checks.
We love how the zari hemline is a woven gold and silver from front to back.
Its time to fall in love with Monique !
What is a Jamdani ?
A jamdani weave is a prime example of the power of handweaving since the entire process of weaving the motifs is extremely time consuming and done completely by hand.
The motifs are woven by a thicker yarn, called the extra supplementary weft which is woven one line at a time, to make the individual motif, along with the standard weft technique of weaving the base of the fabric. The base is usually of a sheer yarn than the motifs which is opaque on the surface.
In a good jamdani, the motifs on the back of the fabric, will be the same neatness as the front , which speaks volumes for the skill of the weaver and the tenacity with which he weaves every single piece.
This one is for keeps.
